It is often said that Character is what you do when nobody is watching.
But reflecting on this, I think we can add a dimension: Character is what happens where nobody can see. In your heart.
Stopping at a red light on an empty road at midnight is a good deed.
Stopping at a red light, and cursing interiorly because you’re in a hurry and you want to keep going–that is not a good intention to go with your good deed.
Yes, Character is behaving well when nobody is watching, but it’s also behaving well in the parts of your mind where only God can see.
